In Review: Beauty

In Review: Beauty

Written by The Strategy

Sure, we may be almost a whole week into 2016, but the doesn’t mean 2015 no longer needs a recap. Today we’re going over everything beauty that happened last year. From hair to makeup, from products to trends, 2015 was the year for beauty.

On the trend side of things, 2015 was the year to have a bun. Man bun fan or not, it’s undeniable that top knots took over. Half-up styles with messy knots and slicked back, pulled up, tangled together style was seen on everyone. There was also a stronger sense of obsession over skin care. Instead of being a stand-out year for eye or lip trends, skin took centre stage and showed us how to glow like we’ve never glowed before (shout out to you, sheet masks).

And the everlasting love for brows? Still going strong.

New faces were seen throughout the industry. Lisa Eldridge became creative director at Lancôme, Andrew Gallimore was named make-up artist ambassador at Nars, Jessica Alba released Honest Beauty

Charlotte Tilbury opened not only her first boutique in Canada (in Holt’s, if you remember), she also opened her first actual solo store. Tilbury also teamed up with Norman Parkinson to release a line of products and bags plastered with iconic images. Speaking of team-ups, CoverGirl took on Starwars, Marc Jacobs is being inspired by Winona Ryder, and Estée Lauder adopted Kendall Jenner. And Alexa Chung and Nails Inc gave us what is maybe the most exciting beauty invention of 2015. Spray on nail polish. Virtually idiot-proof, this stuff has our name written all over it.

Proving the strength of modern day grass roots marketing, Pat McGrath took to Instagram with snappy and stylish videos showing off her first covetable and illusive item for sale— Gold 001. The pure gold pigment started a frenzy that’s still going, having been consistently sold out on her website since the launch. Gold 001 peaked the interested for multi-use products that can take on almost any beauty task.

And with all that, it’s hard to believe that 2016 will probably top it in a couple months. You never know when a beauty revelation is just around the corner.
