Call them frills, call them ruffles, call it peplum if you will. Whatever name you know them by, they’re back in their little extravagant way.

To be quite honest, I’ve felt very strong on the fact that frills/ruffles/peplum was not the trend for the masses. It’s not the most universally flattering style, and can easily be overdone (unlike the peplum trend of 2011-ish would have everyone believe).

Which is why it is nice to see a pared down version sweeping the scene nowadays. Instead of the overwhelmingly frilly, we have tastefully frilled sleeves, hems, and details. Throw that mindset together with current minimal ideas along with a little imagination and you’ve got yourself a snappy looking piece of fashion to work with.

So the next time you come across a ruffled number, give it a go instead of steering clear. It might just be what you’re looking for to bring something interesting to your look.
