Wedding season is upon us, and with it, everyone’s favourite pre-wedding party: The bachelor(ette) party! While we love a good penis cake every now and then, there is nothing quite like a bit of a classier do. For a Wes Anderson obsessed pal, we recently threw a bachelorette party that replaced the typical pink, purple and bedazzled decorations for something a bit more whimsical. So, if you are looking to change it up, you’ve come to the right place. Here is our tips for a Wes Anderson Bachelorette Party.
Setting The Tone
As any Wes Anderson afficiando knows, a Wes Anderson party has two main ingredients: 1. Use of the Futura font 2. A pastel based colour palette. We pulled this colour palette from his films:
The DIYS
Thanks to the Lords of Pinterest, there were tons of DIYs for us to pull from. As candy was one of the main noms we were serving, we opted to use Kittenhood’s templates for Mendel’s and Life Aquatic popcorn boxes. Following her suggestions, we printed them on A3 heavy paper and glued them together with a non-toxic glue. Then, we swapped her suggestion of popcorn for candy that fit into our colour scheme.
We also littered the space with Mendel’s boxes. We downloaded Make My Lemonade’s template for the boxes, and printed them on pink paper, in a heavy cardstock. We then put it together with double sided tape. To make a few of them stand out more, we tied them with a blue ribbon à la Mendels.
The Decorations
The decorations were where we really let the theme come out. We pulled different thematic pieces from an array of Wes Anderson films. We lay out old maps and forest animals, vintage suitcases, and used backyard lights in the place of the bright overhead ones.
Instead of the usual Bachelorette banner, we instead pulled the iconic quote of “Cuss Yeah” from The Fantastic Mr. Fox. We printed the letters in Futura font on paper that matched our colour scheme.
We also printed out other iconic quotes and had frames all around the space.
For a fun Photo Booth, we used Wes Anderson inspired props, all against a Zebra Masai wallpaper.
The Food and Drink
As the setting was more of a cocktail party, no heavy foods were prepared. Instead food and drink were kept simple.
Using HP sticker paper, we printed logos from The Grand Budapest Hotel and Life Aquatic and stuck them to the glasses for a more personal touch.
Giving in to bachelorette party temptation, we did give guests a choice of drinking from paper straws or penis shaped ones, and even included a penis ring toss game – after all, we women do tend to get a kick out of it. There may have even been a stripper or two 😏.
