You can customize nearly everything – Your phone, your PJs, your M&Ms. Why not customize your lipstick while you’re at it? Something about having a custom lip shade is oh so French. Naturally, we had to have one of our own, and the best place to get it done is none other than the Canadian, Lip Lab by BITE. We stopped by the Lab to create two bespoke shades. Here’s how it went down from start to finish.
The first step in creating your custom shade is to describe what it is your looking for in a lipstick. For TS’ custom shade, we said we were looking for something that was a cool neutral and looked sheer upon application. We also decided to go with one “fun” colour that was to be bold, a deep red with a warm berry satin finish. Our colour artist then selected colours to blend together. It took about 2 tries before we found our perfect blend. From there, it was all about choosing a flavour to go along with our lipstick. We opted for Wild Berry and Fresh Citrus, but other options included Mint, Coconut and Lime.
Once flavour and colours have been picked, they went into mini tubs to be heated and mixed. While our two looked similar on paper, on they were both completely different. After we made sure the heated colours still matched our original swatches, they were poured into a metal mold and onto a cooling mat, where they sat for about 10 minutes.
After cooling, the excess was trimmed off and the mold was opened. In about 30-45 minutes flat, we had two of our very own customized shades. We can’t scroll through our Instagram feeds in 30 minutes so this was truly an amazing feat.
