Danielle Prescod's New York

Danielle Prescod's New York

Written by The Strategy

Welcome to New York City. Home to Broadway, Fifth Avenue and the Glossier Flagship. New York City guides are a dime a dozen, but not many are told by one of the cities most fashionable residents – TS alum, Danielle Prescod. We sat down with Danielle to learn about her favourite NY haunts and what’s good in New York City.

If you had a friend visiting from out of town, what are 3 must do’s that are off the beaten path?

It depends on what this friend likes. If this person was into wellness, I’d send them to somewhere different than someone who is into fashion and food. If they are a wellness person, I would tell them they should go to Bandier because they have the best workout clothes. I would tell them to go to Face Gym – they just opened their flagship in New York. Then, I would tell them to go to a workout. My favourite yoga in New York is Sky Ting yoga in Tribeca. If they’re fashion people, I’d tell them to have lunch at the Tiffany’s Cafe, The BlueBox. Then I’d tell them to go to Soho and go to Kirna Zabête, then finish the day at Great Jones Spa.

What are your top 3 places to eat in New york?

I love so many restaurants, that’s so hard! I’m always at the Odeon, even though it’s in Tribeca and super far from where I live. Its a toss up between Cafe Clover and Bar Pitti, but fine because they’re across the street from each other. Cafe Clover is really healthy good food. Bar Pitti is not healthy Italian. The pasta Pitti is so delicious. Then, I would say, The Polo Bar. I went for the first time in 2019 a few weeks ago and Bradley Cooper was there, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Howard Stern, Tracey Morgan, like the world was there. They also have pigs in a blanket.

What are your favourite shopping destinations?

Kirna Zabête. Five Story is one of my favourites. The customer service is great and they have a great sale season. M’Oda Operandi also has an in-person destination on the Upper East side, and I think that place is really good.

What is your favourite part about living in New York City?

My favourite part about living in New York City is that you can do anything at any time. It’s the most convenient place to live. You can get anything delivered, you can make anything happen at any time of day or night. There’s no limits here.

What’s your least favourite part about living in New York City?

My least favourite part about living in New York City is definitely how many people there are at any given time. December is the worst time to be living in New York. There are so many tourists, and I live Uptown, so it’s very congested. I work in Times Square, which is even worse. It’s also so dirty.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone looking to move to New York?

Do your research and don’t have any crazy expectations because of something you saw on television, because your refrigerator may be in your living room – depending on how much money you have to live here. Try to manage your expectations in a way that’s going to not make you disappointed.
