The First Monday In May

The First Monday In May

Written by The Strategy

Readers, it’s almost here. The only Monday of the year that gets fashion-folk excited. Of course, we’re talking about the first Monday in May, fashion’s night out, the Oscar’s of fashion, The Met Gala.

While our ticket, and most probably yours, got lost in the mail, we have all the details on what to expect from this year’s gala.

The Date: Monday, May 6th, 2019

The Theme: Camp: Notes on Fashion

Huh? Camp, as in exaggerated fashion, inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration”.

Dress Code: Studied Trviality

Co-Chairs: Serena Williams, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Alessandro Michele

Sponsorship: The entire event is being sponsored by Gucci.

Exhibition: The exhibition itself will feature over 200 picks of fashion, along with sculptures, paintings and drawings. Works from Virgil Abloh to Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Rei Kawakubo, Theirry Mugler and Karl Lagerfeld will be featured. The exhibition opens to the public Thursday May 9th and closes Sunday September 8th.

Committee: The committee alone totals 183 people, split amongst stars, designers, philanthropists and athletes. The roundup includes Bradley Cooper, (a very pregnant) Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o and Jennifer Lopez
