OccupationFreelance Creative Director
When we first came across Carrie Barber’s Instagram, we lost an hour or so scrolling through her posts – we even got to the end of her page. Her aesthetic was beautiful and each post had us double tapping. The Freelance Creative Director has previously worked with Sephora and Glossier, and currently working with our favourite beauty spot, Violet Grey, as a contributing editor. Once we got through her personal IG page, we then delved into her ‘mood board’ page, @crosby_james, and immediately knew we had to sit down with her to learn more about what’s inspiring her style.
Q&A
How do you start your day off?
I love mornings! I like to have a good 1-2 hours before I leave for the day to fully wake up. I’m usually up before 7am. I spend 45 minutes reading the news, drinking coffee and do whatever urgent work needs to be done, then get ready for my day.
What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?
I listen to The Daily from The New York Times every morning.
You never leave home without…
Phone, keys, wallet, water and a kiss from my boo.
What are your closet essentials?
Anyone who knows me, knows that my wardrobe is mostly black. I used to have a very corporate job, with a black and white dress code, and it just stuck. Since moving to LA, it has evolved and I have started to incorporate jeans, more neutrals and even some floral prints (!!!). I need my wardrobe to be easy, so I try to buy pieces that work with a lot of different pieces or are a one and done.
What is your biggest fashion regret?
I think all my questionable fashion choices were age appropriate, so no regrets!
You always splurge on, and you always save on…
I will splurge on pieces from my favourite brands like Totême, old Céline, The Row, Bottega…etc. because I know how they fit and they are timeless. I’m not a big trend follower, but if I want to try something new, Zara is my go to.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
The confidence to wear low-cut Abercrombie & Fitch jeans with a crop top.
What inspires your style most?
This may be an age-old answer, but anything can inspire me. For example, I am watching the ‘Cheer’ documentary on Netflix, and it’s one of the most inspiring things I have watched in a while.
You’re Number 1 style tip is…
Wear what makes you feel best.
