OccupationAssistant Social Media Manager at Bergdorf Goodman
When Taylor Hicks welcomed us into her New York apartment, it took everything in us to not ask to move in. With stacks of Lui magazine, Saint Laurent Rive Droite ‘goodies’ on almost every surface, and every issue of CR magazine stacked neatly in a corner, it was a place we never wanted to leave. We were immediately inspired by all the details she surrounds herself with. The Bergdorf Goodman Social Media Manager has a keen eye and we were interested to know more about what is inspiring her own style.
Q&A
How do you start your day off?
I’m not a morning person, so it always takes me a minute to wake up. I typically start with my skin care routine, an iced chai latte, and a phone call to my boss Jessica. I’m usually out the door around 30 minutes from when I wake up.
What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?
Right after I wake up, I enjoy silence, but I do have a specific playlist that I listen to on the way to work that includes Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Dua Lipa.
How do you formulate your outfit for the day?
I’ve never been someone who plans their outfits in advance, but when I do, I always start with shoes. When I’m feeling great, I’ll wear a high-heel boot. When I’m not feeling as good, I’ll opt for a combat boot or an oversized suit.
You never leave home without…
Having a job in social media requires that my phone always be within a few inches of me. I never seem to remember the portable charger, though…
What are your closet essentials?
I’ve always been an avid fan of boots. Other items that are in constant rotation are a great white t-shirt, a menswear-inspired coat, a long-sleeve black mini dress, and blazers of all shapes and sizes.
What is your biggest fashion regret?
In college, I spent all of my money on neon blazers and statement necklaces. Today, you couldn’t even pay me to go near either of those things unless I’m with my best friend whose wardrobe is predominantly neon green and pink. Our styles live on opposite ends of the spectrum, but they say opposites attract…
You always splurge on, and you always save on…
I always splurge on vintage pieces like my Tom Ford for Saint Laurent peasant blouse from the ’90s or my pinstripe Jean Paul Gaultier blazer. I tend to save on basics like jeans and t-shirts.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
Honestly, nothing. I’m a big believer in the evolution of style throughout one’s life.
What inspires your style most?
While I don’t invest in magazines the way I used to, I do scour through Tumblr and other sites that showcase each month’s fashion editorials. I get really inspired by the way certain fashion editors like Christine Centenera and Samira Nasr approach each new season. I’m also deeply obsessed with cinema so I often find myself referencing iconic film looks like Michelle Pfeiffer in “Scarface” or Lauren Bacall in “To Have and Have Not.”
You’re Number 1 style tip is…
Be aware of who you are and pay attention to what makes you feel good. If you’re not dressing for yourself, who are you dressing for? Clothing is a form of self-expression so make sure you’re saying what you want to say, not what someone else thinks you should say.
