Travelling in Style – Arrive in Style
Part of the fun of travelling, is dressing to get there. It’s a careful composition of simple accessories and luxurious, yet stain resistant, fabrics.
Essentials include: A cashmere cardigan to throw over the perfect loose tee, a pair of relaxed trousers, comfortable shoes and a tote with room for an “Olsen-esque” scarf, essential electronics and passport holder.
This sounds easy, but it’s really not. The above, must also be cute, and therein lies the challenge.
First: Climate Control
An extra large scarf can help pull together your travel attire, and provide warmth as a blanket en route. Cardigans, as always, are the perfect layering tool. Choose a scarf that has character but stay away from your mother’s pashmina. The rule for cardigans should always be, the bigger the better. Here are our picks: Christophe Lemaire’s Yak Stole and Wilfred’s Diamond Mosaic Blanket.
Second: To Legging or Not To Legging
Do people still wear leggings when not walking the dog? They’re a comfortable choice for travel, but have got a bad rep, because they’re often paired wrong. What you pair them with, is essential to making them work. V-Neck sweaters that don’t quite reach your bum? No. A long-ish, distressed, I’ve-had-this-forever cashmere sweater or an A.Wang tee? Yes. Avoid leggings of leather and sheen; black cotton is your friend.
If leggings don’t appeal, a boyfriend jean or the new style of relaxed mom jean works perfectly and are usually our go to. Our picks include: Anything from Current/Elliot, JBrand, Rag & Bone and Zara’s denim line.
Third: How Not To Look Like A Bag Lady
The Longchamp Le Pliage bag is everything. Has a more perfect tote ever been created for travel? It zips up, is made of a tough nylon fabric, has room for plenty and it comes in black. Other options include: Totes from Goyard, Michael Kors and Clare Vivier.
Don’t forget to pack a pair of aviators for when you disembark. Under-eye bags won’t look good with your outfit.
