These past few weeks have had quite their fair share of rainy days. Considering that, and coupled with our love of lazy afternoons, we thought it would be high time to compile a list of our all time favourite movies for rainy lazy days. Days when the sky is grey, the tea is calling, and there are no responsibilities taking you away from your bed.
1. Roman Holiday
The classic Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck rom-com from 1953 is an eternal movie day staple. It is a rom-com, which some people may see as a reason to skip it, but is genuinely funny and light hearted. The ending is perfectly anti-cliche, making you realize sometimes good things must come to an end.
2. The Grand Budapest Hotel
Four Oscars know what they’re talking about, and in the case of The Grand Budapest Hotel, they’re saying good things. There is so much to fall in love with in this movie beyond the story. The colours, the music, the scenery…it’s a dream. It draws up desires of moving to a hotel and living an adventurous life.
3. Midnight in Paris
I’ve watched this movie far too many times to exclude it from the list. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out on a story where Paris plays as much a character as the people. Owen Wilson will make you laugh, and Marion Cotillard will make you feel at once empathetic for her character’s dissatisfaction with life, and jealous of her wardrobe.
4. Almost Famous
For all those 70’s trend enthusiasts, this one is for you. Who can resist Kate Hudson as Penny Lane in that shearling coat and those purple sunglasses? No one. The epic lives the rockstars, their Band Aids, and the high school kid who somehow gets to document it all, are captivating. It’s a surprisingly emotional movie that doesn’t sugar coat the struggles the characters would have faced.
5. Dirty Dancing
Because it’s Dirty Dancing, guys. About every three weeks or so you can find it playing on some TV station, which is a testament to just how great this movie is. Everyone has seen it and everyone loves it. That is why it’s a classic. Get ready to feel like enrolling in a dance class.
