Packs for Your Backs

Packs for Your Backs

Written by The Strategy

The end of summer is always bittersweet. For those going back to school, even more so.

Yes, Autumn is great with it’s leaves and ubiquitous sweater weather. But when you have the thought of another school year looming over your head, it’s significantly less appealing. One upside of starting school in the fall? Getting to 180 your wardrobe, including accessories. And this year, we want to embrace the good old backpack in (for the most part) it’s original form.

A little leather here, a quilted bit there, some metal details, and voila! A backpack that’s not as burdensome to your outfit as it can be to your back. Mulberry and Cara Delevingne are coming out with a line of bags that have two straps in the back that can transition into a traditional shoulder strap, plus it has handles at the top. And the bags looks surprisingly roomy. Similarly, Phillip Lim has a purse/backpack hybrid. Sure, they might not fit all the essentials for a classroom, but they would make really cute hands free carry-ons while travelling, no?

For more school appropriate bags, you still shouldn’t have to sacrifice your style. When it comes to carrying a laptop, a binder, some notebooks, snacks, and other school things, never underestimate your friend Herschel. They’re more backpack-y than the rest, but they’re still stylish in their own casual hipster way.

Dressing for fall is an exciting time, and we don’t think the backpack should be the focal point. Which is why many of the ones we like the best are anything but complex. We like the idea of understated. We LOVE the idea of versatility. Don’t even get us started on the issues between coats and backpacks. Oh, the struggle! The one thing that relationship does not need is the addition of clashing colours and styles.

We want to be able to wear our backpack with leather pants, chunky sweater, dresses, and plaid skirts without the voice in our head saying “Man, that backpack and this outfit are really gonna clash. And not in a good way. Change.”

All this talk about fall clothes has us in a tizzy.

Happy backpacking, kids.
