Pearls have a reputation. Pearls are ladylike, demure, and elegant, as are the ladies that wear them.
Usually.
With the ear cuffs, studs, body chains, and rings that have popping up more and more, that reputation is getting a bit of an upgrade. No longer are pearls reserved for the dainty (or the elderly). The beauty about pearls nowadays is that you can go from Parisian City Girl Chic to Rebel without a Cause in the same set of gems.
Diamond’s might get a little more press than our old friend Pearl, but that’s no reason to take away Pearl’s limelight. Perhaps pearls haven’t been the most desirable accent to our jewelry in recent years, but slowly they have been making their way back. Particularly thanks to Chanel, pearls were reintroduced on those beloved gold chokers with the two huge pearls on each end. Copy catted by everyone under the sun, and taken notice by jewelry designers, pearls are starting to takeover accessories departments and hearts all over the world. Not that we mind.
We wish we could bring back the times of widespread jewelry collection, where strands upon strands of pearls would be saved and worn only on the best of occasions. Even though that’s probably not going to happen, having some pearls on our ears and around our necks makes us feel a little more posh. While long strands of pearls may not be the most wearable, modern takes on accessories like the aforementioned ear cuffs, fun rings, and minimalist bracelets give pearls the update they needed.
Pearls and minimalist jewelry is the best pairing since Derek Blasberg and Instagram. Which is really saying something.
We are in full support of the pearl takeover. Are you?
