It’s well into November, and if you’re anything like us, you’re still looking for ways to transition your favourite summer ensembles into the not-so-favourable cooler months. You’d think with all the practice we’ve had, we’d be fully equipped with all the know-hows, and how-to’s when it comes to layering and looking chic while staying warm. But here’s something most of us maybe have yet to try (or accept): wearing dresses over pants.
From Balenciaga, Kenzo, Celine, and most recently, Sarah Jessica Parker while in Rome, it seems the 90’s are making another comeback, and this time they’re bringing their pants. The trend was first spotted years ago from Rag & Bone, but didn’t take off as well as others (no kidding!) until now.
But who are we to judge? Whether or not we think this trend is pretty, or just plain desperate, it does add value to our winter wardrobes in that it grants us permission to wear our favourite frocks all year-round. Too often, we see trends on the runway that do not translate so gracefully into every-day real life; but this is one duo that, at least for us Canadians, offers purpose and practicality come cold winter months.
So, for those of you looking for alternative ways to wear your frocks, go ahead and give this trend a try-on. Just be careful, and maybe stick to slim trousers when pairing them with a long tunic or dress. The goal is to keep you warm and looking chic – not like the Hippie Mom at your local flea market.
