Do you believe in luck?
Whether the answer is yes or no, you’ve definitely come across someone who believes in it. And more often than not, the good luck manifests itself in things like socks, jeans, t-shirts, and underwear.
After many trials and successes, these arbitrary clothing items become beacons of good fortune and are brought out time and time again to add a little extra pep to the wearer’s step. Have a big interview? Work those lucky sock into your outfit and you’ve got the job. Feeling a little down on your luck lately? Slide on those lucky underpants and you are good to go.
But are you really?
Maybe, maybe not. There will never one solitary agreement on lucky articles of clothing actually being lucky, but there’s no denying that they make people stand a little taller and feel more sure of themselves. The magic is in the mystery, and to get rid of the mystery wouldn’t be that much fun.
If luck truly is in the seams of my favourite mom jeans, I’m not complaining.
Either way, gotta love that placebo effect.
