This is dedicated to all those who encounter panic in the face of buying swimsuits. The people who are unsure of what they want, and therefore end up buying eight new swimsuits each year. And subsequently only wear two.
I am one of these people.
There comes a point every year around April, when the swimwear starts to make its way into stores, where I think about what I need to buy for the summer. Every year I I succumb to the delusion that I need a new swimsuit. Not only do I feel the need to buy just one…I think I need to have one of every kind of swimsuit there is. With some discretion, of course.
This year, however, I was strict. I gave myself guidelines that I would not under any circumstances buy any new swimwear. As you can imagine, my collection was already a little out of control. I know there are some strong “You can never have too much of a good thing” believers out there, but you can in fact have too many swimsuits and no where to keep them. Much like my knitwear situation.
If you, like me, suffer from a compulsive need to buy unnecessary swimwear each year, here is everything you actually need.
You need three bikinis. One should be solid, one patterned, and one strapless. There’s room to expand on each, as you can go as colourful or neutral as you please. You have to have personality, after all.
Second, you need two one piece swimsuits. Again, one solid and one patterned. One pieces have made quite the strong come back this past year, and we are totally on board for it. Sometimes two pieces are just too much work.
And lastly, you need one- just one– trendy swimsuit. This is the one that you can buy each year. Wether it be a daring cutout, or animal print, neon, long sleeved, what have you. I repeat: only one. Five unworn trendy bikinis are not what you need at the end of summer.
Be strong. You can do it. Think of it as a healthy swimsuit detox cleanse.
