Trend: What Hands?

Written by The Strategy

Well kids, welcome to the first official day of Autumn! While the weather may not be crisp yet, and people will judge when you wear as many layers as possible, there are still some trends from the F/W 2015 runways that can start working their way into your wardrobe.

First up, is the skinny scarf. The skinny scarf is such a Parisian accessory, and we think the likes of Caroline de Maigret and Clémence Poésy would give us a nod of appreciation for wearing it. The accessory was seen on the runways of Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Haider Ackermann and Chloé. We found an affordable version over at Free People and can’t wait to wear it with a loose unbuttoned black Equipment blouse for a night on the town.

Next, we have another take on a neck accessory – Bandana’s. Don’t lie, your 90s Lizzie McGuire self just got excited! Coach used one in almost every look they sent down the runway, Wes Gordon paired it with a beautiful dress, and Cynthia Rowley boasted a sequinned version. While we’re not ready to wear this trend as a top (like we once did), we’re using this accessory to emphasize a bit of a 90s grunge. Paired with a shearling moto jacket, it is sure to complete your look.

Let’s talk shoes. Chanel won us over 1000x’s by bringing back the classic slingback. Other’s, such as Balmain, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler also showed their take on the trend of slingback, midi heeled shoes. This trend reminds us of days spent playing in our grandmothers closets trying on all her fab shoes! Way to be ahead of the trend Nana! Many versions of these ladylike shoes will be sure to hit the market, but no one can do it quite like Chanel. The shoes are a bit of a splurge, but they are a classic, timeless style that can be worn many ways. In our eyes, it’s worth the investment.

Another trend we are wearing now is that of edgy jewelry. F/W 2015 was full of Victorian and Gothic glamour, and while we’re not fully ready to embrace all black, high collared looks, we are excited to incorporate edgy jewelry into our transitional wardrobe. Givenchy was the champion of this look, with heavy jewels adorning models faces, but Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs also had some pieces to be coveting. We found a faux septum ring from Givenchy that is just dying to be worn at a concert or to Thanksgiving dinner to give our mothers a scare. Zoë Kravitz  is a huge fan of the septum ring, and after months of following her on Instagram, we’re kind of obsessed.

This last trend is a bit of a weird one. It’s not so much what was sent down the runway, but more, how looks were styled. Derek Lam, Stella McCartney, J.Crew and Nina Ricci (to name a few) all sent models down the runway with their sleeves pulled down covering up their hands. So, we’re calling this trend, “What hands?”. We kind of like this small styling trick, as the current weather doesn’t call for gloves, but temperatures do tend to drop, causing our mitts to find warmth in our sleeves.

And there you have it! Our favourite fall trends to incorporate into our wardrobes now.
