New Year’s Eve is fast approaching, and like usual, it has almost completely slipped off our radar. With all the other excitement and typical craziness this time of year, NYE becomes the “Thursday” of the season (literally and figuratively this year).
Let me explain.
Thursday is a weird forgotten day of the week— it’s the day before Friday, the day that drags after Wednesday, and while it might be #throwback day, the hashtag is the only thing that gave Thursday true meaning. Thursday gets lost in the hype of the weekend, much like New Years gets lost in the hype of the gift-buying Holidays of December.
And so, New Years Eve becomes our Thursday.
Except that New Years is a Friday in disguise. A night built around sparkle, anticipation, new beginnings, and of course champagne. Totally a Friday at heart. It’s the night to channel your inner It Girl and pull out all the stops. Florals? Yes! Sequins? Of course! Bright colours? Please! The more avant-garde you allow your imagination to run, the better your night will be.
The perfect inspiration for your NYE get up is another event that follows just after a major celebration. This Thursday, however, gets lost in the hype of every awards show they follow. The Thursday of Awards Season.
We’re talking about afterparties.
Time and time again you can rely on afterparty fashion to be better than the actual event fashion. Why? Because there isn’t as much pressure, the nerves are gone, and the celebs just want to have a good time now that the serious part of the night is over. All the fun styles come out to play at the afterparties. One online slideshow of Vanity Fair’s famous Oscar’s Afterparty and you’ll see what we mean.
A wealth of inspiration can be pulled from afterparty looks. The expected, like new takes on the LBD, to the unexpected, like dresses with built-in bedazzled stockings, blue tuxedo jackets, and unique colour combinations you might not have put together.
Luckily for us, and you if you’ve also forgotten how close NYE is, there is still some time. Emphasis on some. We need to really pull ourselves together to get the night figured out, but we have faith it can be done.
To save you a bit of that time, we’ve gathered a few bit and pieces that are on our Options list. Shop through our Essentials below to see what we’ve found.
