A TS Wardrobe Staple: Flip Flops – the shoe that has taken us from summers of youth to fashion-forward summers of adulthood.
We love an image make-over, and one that we are really embracing this summer is the rebirth of the flip flop. Once a shoe we had on hand to save our feet from gross college showers or tossed into a tote for a day at the beach, flip flops have slowly become an understated wardrobe staple.
With everyone on our IG feed seemingly on holiday in the South of France or other European locales, and everyone else trying to get the Riviera-vacation-vibes from home, flip flops are the shoe on everyone’s feet. Even before their renaissance, flip flops were the ultimate vacation essential. Now, we not only are bringing them along on holiday, but also wearing them back home on dates, grocery store runs, or dinners with friends. It’s safe to say, they’ve been our shoe of choice this season.
As designers like Gia Borghini, The Row and even Chanel have created their own version of flip flops, and the likes of the Olsen twins, Kendall Jenner, and TS Alum TyLynn Nguyen sporting the shoe, it’s easy to see that flip flops are key to your summer style.
Now, when it comes to TS, our preference for the sandals (can we even call them that?) is that of the OG, classic, flat, and unfussy versions. Sure, we love the platform and heeled options, but there is something so simple and easy about a more streamlined design. They’re casual and they’re easy to pack – either in a large handbag for when your feet need a break from heels, or in a carry-on suitcase. But best of all: they will never really go out of style. The platform may fade, but the simplest version of a flip flop has lived in our closets for years.
We’re pairing ours with everything from mini skirts and oversized linen button-downs, to jeans, wide-leg pants, short shorts and even sometimes a dress; slipping on an easy summer dress and sliding your feet into a pair of flip flops, screams ‘summer!’
However, we must note that while we’ve lived in our flip flops this summer, we do fully intend to wear them into the fall as well. They are somewhat of a perfect transition shoe. As we head slowly into the fall season, mornings and evening temperatures are dipping, while afternoons tend to be swelteringly hot. The flip flop is the ideal footwear solution, as they look good paired with a knit sweater in the morning and still with a tank top come the afternoon.
