2023s Fashion Resolutions

2023s Fashion Resolutions

Written by The Strategy

A new year and a fresh start. Whether you’re a “new year, new you” kind of person, or “new year, same me because I’m perfect” kind of person, the start of a new year is a great time to implement some new goals positive changes.

With the start of 2023, we’re turning away from the journey of self-improvement (we exhausted that during the ‘pandemic years’) and are turning our focus to our closets. Groundbreaking for a fashion and lifestyle website, we know. But hear us out: we are firm believers that you wear has a significant correlation to how you may feel. Tracks and a hoodie makes us feel cozy and relaxed and puts us in a lounging mood, whereas dressing up for work each day makes us feel put tighter and ready for an endless stream of meetings and Zoom calls. So, with our 2023 fashion resolutions, we aim to improve not only our style, but how we feel in it.

Have More Fun with Fashion – particularly with accessories

We’ll be the first to say that a general consensus of TS team members is that we stick to a predominately neutral wardrobe. Neutral colours and classic pieces that are unfussy and timeless. But, this year we’d like to be a little bit more adventurous, taking inspiration from one of TS’ 2022 Best Dressed, Jodie Turner-Smith, and having more fun with fashion. We’re not quite ready to rock out to full Barbiecore just yet, but we’re aiming to get more adventurous with our accessories as a start. We’re talking injecting colour into our footwear, like the yellow slingbacks we spied in Celine’s Paris flagship, boldness into our accessories with fanciful earrings and hair adornments, and interesting handbags we’ve accumulated but never actually worn.

Upgrade Our Base

As mentioned before, Team TS has a generally neutral wardrobe. As many try to minimize and declutter, creating a capsule wardrobe is the perfect way focus on the pieces that get the most use. With that being said, as we go forward into the new year, we have plans to focus on those standout pieces, and upgrade them to better quality items that will last with each season. Instead of buying 10 of the same black t-shirts to get us through the new year, maybe its time to spend a little more on the Totême version that will last much longer.

Invest in Better Quality Knits

Going even further on the idea of upgrading basics, is to create special focus on knitwear. Regardless of your style, some form of knitwear is definitely a wardrobe staple. This year, our resolution is to invest in better quality knits that will stand the test of time and can we pulled out season after season. Knits like Jenni Kayne’s Cashmere Cocoon Cardigan that can be worn layered in the winter, or as a thrown-on late summer evening accessory, or Vince’s Plush Cashmere Funnel Neck Sweater that would look as good in the spring with denim shorts and flip flops, as it would in the fall with boots and a silk slip skirt.

Shop Sustainably

This resolution has been on our list for a few years now, and we’ll continue to work at it. By focusing on better quality pieces of a capsule collection, we can focus on shopping smarter and more sustainably. Not every trend needs to be bought in to, and our closets don’t needs to be filled to the brim with new items from each season. We’ve made a valiant effort to move our personal shopping choices away from fast fashion, and will continue to shop more informed. When heading out for a bit of retail therapy, we plan to think carefully on each piece we want to add to our collection and decide on if it is something we would get a lot of use out of, if it is made from materials that are sustainable, and if it will actually stand the test of time.

If It’s Not Broke, Don’t Fix It

Saying that, one huge resolution we plan to go forward with this year is to focus on what our actual style is. Everyone has an opinion on the newest, hottest, and trendiest, but if something simply doesn’t feel right for our wardrobe, we’re not going to buy into it. We like our capsules of natural colours and timeless pieces. While we do plan to have a little more fun with fashion in 2023, we don’t plan on overhauling our style completely just because of the dawn of a new year.
